Dawn of Eden v0.4: Hammer & Hearth

Key notes

  • Choose your trade: every character picks two of nine crafting professions. Only those two grow, and each one has its own gear line from the first tier to the last.
  • A real workbench: a new crafting screen with categories, search, material slots, quality chances and a crafting queue.
  • Crafting takes time now: start a job and it finishes piece by piece, even after you walk away or log out.
  • Catalysts: add Essence, Core Crystal or herbs to a craft to steer it toward better quality, an extra affix or a stat you want.
  • Hidden recipes: each profession has secret recipes to discover by experimenting with materials, tracked in a journal.
  • Your name on your work: crafted gear is signed, mastery ranks bring perks, top crafters earn titles, and there’s a crafters leaderboard.
  • Outpost workshops: build a workshop for each of your professions and give it a standing order. Workers with the right specialty do it faster and better.
  • Townsfolk orders: three crafting requests a day for Scrip, profession XP and rare materials.

Professions: pick two

Open Professions from the Hero tab or the workbench, or type professions. Choose two of:

ProfessionMakesStation
BlacksmithingPlate armor, shields, hammers, blades, sickles, daggersForge
LeatherworkingLeather armor for every slotWorkbench
TailoringWoven armor for every slotWorkbench
CarpentryBows, staves, instruments, homestead furnitureWorkbench
TinkeringWrenches, rifles, gadgetsWorkbench
JewelcraftingRings and pendants (twelve new ones)Workbench
AlchemyTonics, salves, draughts, elixirsKitchen
CookingMeals that heal over timeKitchen
EnchantingCharms and refined Essence; reforging costs halfForge

Gathering (Salvaging, Herbalism and Farming) stays open to everyone. Anyone can still smelt ingots, make bandages and fertilizer, and craft whatever a quest asks for, so no quest is ever locked behind a profession.

Already a crafter? Your skill carries over: Smithing went to Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Enchanting; Tinkering to Tailoring and Jewelcrafting; Cooking to Alchemy. Changed your mind later? professions unlearn <name> gives one up for a fee (its level resets) so you can choose another.

The workbench and the crafting queue

Type recipes at a forge, workbench or kitchen. Your professions get their own tabs, with categories (weapons, armor, trinkets and so on), search, and a “Can make” filter. Pick a recipe to see what it makes, which materials you have, and your chances of Fine, Superior or Masterwork quality.

Press Start crafting and the job joins your queue (up to four jobs at once). Each piece takes a few seconds, more for high-level gear, and the queue keeps going if you walk away or log out. Cancel a job and the materials for the unmade pieces come back.

Catalysts and hidden recipes

Catalysts are optional, one per piece:

  • Faint, Clear or Radiant Essence: guaranteed Fine or Superior quality, and better Masterwork odds.
  • Core Crystal: one extra affix.
  • Emberleaf, Stormcap, Glowcap, Healroot or Sunpetal: an affix that adds Strength, Agility, Intellect, Vitality or Willpower.
  • Spore Sac or Mother Root resin: extra potions and food from each piece.

Experiment (the workbench tab, or experiment rootwood, sap, glowcap) combines two or three materials. Each profession has two hidden recipes for stronger, rarer versions of familiar gear and potions. The journal shows a rumor for each one. A miss uses up one of each material, but tells you how close you came.

Mastery and recognition

  • Every piece of gear you craft says Crafted by you.
  • Mastery ranks at levels 10, 20, 30 and 40 bring perks: faster crafting, pieces that cost nothing, better Fine odds, and for Masters, more Masterworks.
  • Reach Expert, Artisan or Master to earn a title like the Master Blacksmith.
  • New feats: Eureka! and Mad Genius for discoveries, and Trusted Supplier for orders.
  • A Master Crafters board on the leaderboards page.

The Outpost, reworked for crafters

  • Workshops: a Forge Works, Tannery, Weaving Hall, Woodshop, Tinker’s Garage, Gem Cutter’s Bench, Alchemy Lab, Cookhouse and Enchanter’s Sanctum. You can build the ones for your two professions. Give one a standing order and it works from outpost storage while you’re away. Gear comes out signed and goes straight to your bag.
  • Supply chain: your yards and refiners now feed your workshops, and a new Hunting Lodge keeps the tanneries in hides.
  • Specialist workers: most workers now have a crafting specialty. In the matching workshop they’re 50% faster, sometimes make a piece for free, and roll better quality.

Townsfolk orders

Three crafting requests a day, picked for your professions and skill (the workbench’s Orders tab, or orders). Deliver from your bag for Scrip, profession XP and rare materials like Essence and Core Crystal.

Also in this update

  • Ten new and rebuilt themes in Settings → Theme, each with its own frames, ornaments, bars and gentle animated backgrounds: Sakura, Stormfront, Starfall, Noir, Cathedral, Verdigris Clockwork, Mycelium, Glacier Aurora and Pastel Arcade, plus a new look for the default Overgrowth.
  • Tooltips open when you click or tap them.

Fixes

  • Two coastal quests, Crab Season and Siren Song, were hidden by later quests that shared their names behind the scenes. Both are back, and A Taste of the Coast follows Crab Season again. Your progress on the other quests is untouched.
